History

Gallery ILÉ was founded in April 2021 by Joyce Bidouzo.
A former Creative Consultant with a career spanning more than two decades, Joyce has successfully orchestrated business development, marketing & PR strategies for a portfolio of highly reputed high fashion, jewellery and luxury lifestyle brands, mostly covering APAC, EMEA and the US.
Fulled by his passion for art, Joyce spearheaded the establishment of Gallery ILÉ, which has since paved the way to the most incredible journey.
Initially conceived as an online gallery, ILÉ unveiled its first ephemeral space in September 2022, located on the mythical Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, before ultimately moving to a permanent home, located at Hazenstraat 28, in the heart of Jordaan's 9 Streets, a year later.
The Gallery has made an undeniable contribution to this particular location and received the warmest embraced by audiences of both local and international collectors, esteemed cultural institutions and art lovers. Securing this location marked a major turning point in The Gallery’’s journey and with it, the promise of a brighter future.
Unfortunately, on December 31st 2023, Joyce suffered a near fatal injury, which left him hospitalised for a period of 4 months, during which he underwent no less than 9 complex surgeries. As of September 2024, Joyce has already begun an impressive recovery, but after careful consideration and despite having kept the gallery operational while being strained by an intense physiotherapy program, he decided to not renew this lease on this particular location.
For now, the Gallery is back to its initial online format. Yet with the continuous support of our dedicated collectors and our chosen family of artists and friends, we are nurturing bigger dreams and a vision for growth and expansion that is already manifesting in myriads of unforeseen developments. Our return to a physical entity is inevitable. Such is our blessing, our call.
We are much eager to unfold the next chapter of this wondrous journey.
We aim to astonish you all!
