Dating back to the 2nd century AD, evidences clearly indicate the ‘Adjito’ board game (also known as ‘Mancala’) finds it origins in Ancient Egypt. Similar artefacts were later uncovered in the city of Genera (Israel) and in an excavated Roman bathhouse where pottery boards dating back to the 3rd century AD were unearthed. Further evidences suggest that fragments of the board game dating between the 6th and 7th centuries AD, were also found in the Aksumite areas of Matara (in Eritrea) and Yeha (in Ethiopia).
The Rules :The Adjito Board Game is structured in a 2x8-10 board. Three counters in each hole. The direction of sowing is not given. When the final counter is dropped in an empty hole in the player's own row, the contents of the opposite hole in the opponent's row are captured. The player who captures the most counters wins.
